Shopify Statistics 2027: Stores, GMV, Market Share and Growth
Verified Shopify statistics: 3.2M+ live stores, $119.1B quarterly GMV, 32.5% e-commerce market share, stores by country, catalog size, apps and performance. Updated quarterly.

Why these numbers matter if you run a growing brand
Platform statistics are usually read as trivia. For a brand doing $500K or more a year they answer a practical question: is the platform you sell on gaining or losing the investment that keeps it competitive? Shopify grew GMV, revenue and store count at the same time through 2026, while the platforms most brands migrate away from lost stores. That gap shows up in your store as the speed of new checkout features, the depth of the app ecosystem and the number of developers who know the platform. This page collects the verified figures and explains what each one means for a brand deciding where to build its next few years of growth.

Shopify revenue and GMV
| Metric (US$ millions) | Q3 2025 | Q2 2026 | Q3 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMV | 92,013 | 115,567 | 119,145 |
| Revenue | 2,844 | 3,583 | 3,742 |
| Monthly recurring revenue (MRR) | 193 | 221 | 230 |
| Free cash flow | 507 | 654 | 816 |
| Operating income | 343 | 488 | 568 |
Sources: Shopify Q3 2026 results, Form 8-K (Nov 3, 2026); Shopify Q2 2026 results (Aug 5, 2026). MRR grew 19% year over year in Q3 2026 (calculated).
What this means for your store: Shopify reinvests a growing revenue base into checkout, payments and AI tooling that every merchant gets without a development project. On a platform with shrinking revenue, those features become your own engineering bill.

The advantage moves from simply being on Shopify to how fast, well structured and well optimized your store is compared with the stores around you.

Platform switching: merchants moving to and from Shopify
Over the 90 days before October 30, 2026, Shopify gained 28,221 stores from other platforms and lost 25,291, a net gain of 2,930 (calculated). WooCommerce was the largest source of new Shopify stores (9,503). See our replatforming statistics for the full breakdown. Source: Store Leads, Shopify report (updated Oct 30, 2026).
What this means for your store: Stores move to Shopify from every major platform every quarter. The brands that move well treat it as a revenue project, with redirects, data and tracking planned up front, not as a theme install. See the full replatforming statistics.
Shopify apps and themes
- The most installed app is Judge.me Product Reviews, detected on 650,821 stores, about 20% of live Shopify stores (calculated). Klaviyo follows with 458,365. Source: Store Leads, Shopify report (updated Oct 30, 2026).
- Dawn, Shopify's free reference theme, runs on 277,557 stores; the newer Horizon theme already runs on 172,400. Source: Store Leads, Shopify report (updated Oct 30, 2026).

Shopify performance
In the HTTP Archive's 2025 platform sample, 76% of 567,932 mobile Shopify origins passed all three Core Web Vitals, compared with 35% of WooCommerce origins and 35% of Magento origins. On desktop, Shopify passed at 76% versus 33% for WooCommerce. Source: HTTP Archive Web Almanac 2025, Ecommerce chapter.
What this means for your store: Shopify gives you a fast baseline, but a store can still be slow. When a Shopify store fails Core Web Vitals, the cause is almost always apps, third-party scripts or theme code, which is fixable without changing platforms.
Signs your store is due for a replatform
Most brands do not migrate because a chart told them to. They migrate when the cost of staying becomes visible in the P&L. The pattern we see in brands doing $500K or more a year is consistent: the development budget goes to keeping the site running instead of growing it, every plugin or extension update is a small risk to checkout, mobile pages fail Core Web Vitals and the team cannot say why, and marketing waits weeks for a landing page that should take a day. If two or more of those describe your store, the question is no longer whether to move but how to move without losing revenue or rankings.
What this looks like in real migrations
The statistics describe the market. Our own projects show what a well-run move looks like for a brand in that market. A UK pet supplies retailer moved from Magento to Shopify Plus in 8 weeks with more than 10,000 SKUs and zero downtime (Petwell case study). A tire retailer moved more than 8,000 SKUs from a legacy hosted platform to Shopify in under 7.5 weeks, rebuilt tire-size search across 84 collections and kept more than 90% of its organic traffic from the first week (Llantas Cavazos case study). A U.S. clinic moved from Squarespace to Shopify in a 4 to 6 week scope that included component-level inventory and Shopify POS (MP Health case study). None of these projects were fast because they skipped steps. They were fast because redirects, data mapping and tracking were planned before the build started.

Frequently asked questions
Will I lose SEO traffic if I migrate to Shopify?
Traffic loss in a migration comes from missing redirects, changed URLs without a map, lost structured data and broken internal links, not from Shopify itself. With a complete URL map, 301 redirects tested before launch and Search Console monitoring after it, a migration can keep the large majority of organic traffic, as the Llantas Cavazos project did.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
For the stores we work with, typical scopes run from 4 to 8 weeks depending on catalog size, integrations and custom functionality. Data volume matters less than the number of systems that have to keep talking to the store, such as ERP, inventory, POS and subscriptions.
Is Shopify or Shopify Plus right for my brand?
Plus makes sense when you need checkout customization, B2B, multiple expansion stores or higher API limits. Many brands under that threshold run well on standard Shopify plans. We decide this during scoping based on your requirements, not on revenue alone.
Methodology and how to cite this page
Every figure on this page comes from the public source linked next to it, checked on November 6, 2026. Store counts from Store Leads measure live, detected storefronts, not merchant accounts, so they differ from figures Shopify reports. W3Techs percentages describe the share of websites, not revenue. Percentages marked "calculated" are Shugert calculations from the cited raw numbers. We update this page every quarter. If you use these statistics, please cite and link to this page as the source of the compilation.
Planning a move to Shopify?
The numbers show where the market is moving. If your store is part of that move, the migration itself is where traffic and revenue are won or lost. See how we run Shopify migrations or request a migration scope.
