Shopify migration agency

Shopify migration without losing the SEO, data or operations you already built.

Shugert plans and implements Shopify and Shopify Plus migrations for established DTC and B2B stores. Storefront rebuild, data migration, redirects, technical SEO, analytics and integrations stay inside one launch plan.

What needs to survive the move

A Shopify migration is successful when customers barely notice it happened.

The job is not simply to import products. It is to preserve the search equity, data, tracking and operational behavior the current store depends on while giving the team a cleaner Shopify platform to operate.

Protect organic search

Inventory valuable legacy URLs, map redirects, validate canonicals, metadata and sitemaps, then monitor Google Search Console after launch.

Reconcile data and integrations

Map products, variants, customers, orders, content, subscriptions and business-critical integrations against source-of-truth counts.

Know whether launch worked

Validate GA4, pixels, checkout events, orders and critical customer journeys before and after the production cutover.

Do you need an agency?

Choose the migration path the store actually needs.

Not every move to Shopify needs a migration agency. The right path depends on how much revenue depends on search, integrations and custom behavior, not only on catalog size.

CSV import

Small catalogs with simple variants and no integrations.

Shopify's built-in importers cover products and customers. Content, redirects and order history need separate handling, and nobody owns SEO or QA unless you do.

Migration app

Mid-sized stores whose data maps cleanly to Shopify.

Bulk import apps such as Matrixify can move products, customers, orders, redirects and metafields. They move records; they do not decide URL strategy, app replacements or launch criteria.

Migration agency

Stores where search traffic, integrations or custom logic carry revenue.

An agency is worth it when Shopify Plus, B2B, ERP or 3PL integrations, subscriptions or a large legacy URL footprint mean a failed cutover costs more than the project.

Shopify migration services

One migration plan for storefront, data, SEO and launch.

Scope is written around the systems the business cannot afford to break. The visible storefront and the operational layer behind it are planned together.

Storefront and platform migration

Theme architecture, feature parity, app replacement and storefront implementation for the target Shopify store.

  • Theme and template architecture
  • App and feature replacement
  • B2B and Markets requirements
  • Staging and release planning

Shopify data migration

Products, variants, customers, orders and content are mapped, imported and reconciled instead of assumed complete after a CSV import.

  • Catalog and variant mapping
  • Customer and order strategy
  • Content migration
  • Source-vs-target reconciliation

Shopify SEO migration

Technical SEO is part of the migration architecture so legacy search equity has an intentional path into the new storefront.

  • Redirect mapping
  • Canonical and indexation review
  • Metadata and structured data
  • Sitemaps and Search Console monitoring

Analytics, integrations and launch QA

We validate the operational layer before and after cutover so teams can distinguish a successful launch from a visually complete one.

  • GA4 and customer events
  • ERP, 3PL and app integrations
  • Checkout and order validation
  • Post-launch issue monitoring

Data migration scope

What moves to Shopify, what gets rebuilt and what stays behind.

Most launch-day surprises come from data nobody decided about. These decisions are written into the migration plan before any import runs.

Moves with planning

  • Products, variants, collections and metafields
  • Customer records, addresses and marketing consent
  • Pages, blog posts and media
  • Legacy URLs, through 301 redirects

Rebuilt on Shopify

  • Theme, navigation and merchandising rules
  • Promotions, shipping zones and tax settings
  • Apps, plugins and extensions, replaced or retired
  • ERP, 3PL, feed and marketing integrations

Stays behind or needs a decision

  • Customer passwords: customers reactivate their account
  • Saved cards, unless the payment provider supports a token migration
  • Older order history, kept outside Shopify by agreement
  • Platform-specific workarounds with no business owner

Platforms we migrate

Magento, WooCommerce and BigCommerce migrations need more than data imports.

Magento to Shopify migration

For Magento 2 stores, we audit product attributes, configurable products, category structure, customer and order data, promotions, extensions and ERP dependencies before choosing their Shopify equivalents. We map legacy product and category URLs to relevant destinations, reconcile migrated records, and rehearse checkout, tax, shipping and inventory flows ahead of launch.

WooCommerce to Shopify migration

For WooCommerce stores, we inventory WordPress content, product variations, subscriptions, checkout plugins, payment and shipping rules, and any custom fields. The Shopify build includes a content and URL mapping plan, data reconciliation, replacement workflows for essential plugins, and GA4 conversion checks so the new store does not silently lose functionality.

BigCommerce to Shopify migration

We map BigCommerce categories, product options, customer groups, discounts, content, checkout behavior and third-party integrations to Shopify capabilities. Redirect rules, merchandising requirements and test orders are validated during a rehearsal, with explicit decisions for features that cannot be migrated one-to-one.

Custom or headless platform to Shopify

For custom and headless storefronts, we assess the current frontend, CMS, search, APIs, checkout and deployment dependencies before recommending Shopify native or a new headless implementation. A phased release plan tests SEO rendering, redirects, analytics and critical shopping journeys without assuming that every custom feature needs to be rebuilt.

Migration process

A controlled path from discovery to post-launch monitoring.

  1. 01

    Audit what exists

We inventory the storefront, URLs, catalog, content, analytics, apps and integrations so the migration starts with evidence instead of assumptions.

    • Feature, app and integration inventory with keep, replace or retire decisions
    • URL export joined with Search Console, analytics and backlink data
    • Source record counts for products, variants, customers and orders
  2. 02

    Map the new Shopify store

Every critical dataset, URL, feature and integration gets a destination, an owner and an acceptance criterion before implementation accelerates.

    • Redirect map agreed before theme work, so templates are built around it
    • Field-level data mapping to Shopify products, metafields and customers
    • Written list of what will not be migrated and why
  3. 03

    Build and rehearse

We implement the Shopify storefront and test representative journeys, redirects, tracking, apps and integrations before the production cutover.

    • Trial imports reconciled against source counts
    • Test orders across payment methods, shipping zones and tax setups
    • Cutover runbook with launch owner, go and no-go criteria and rollback steps
  4. 04

    Launch and monitor

After cutover we watch crawling, redirects, analytics, orders and technical errors so issues are found while they are still easy to correct.

    • Redirect and indexation checks against the approved map
    • Customer account invitation timing and support briefing
    • Search Console, analytics and order monitoring through the first 30 days

Shopify migration cost and timeline

Priced from what the store depends on, not from a product count.

Custom Build or Replatform engagements start at $5,000 and usually run across a 4–24 week delivery window. Discovery turns the drivers on the right into a fixed price for the approved scope, with exclusions written down.

See what the Replatform engagement includes

What changes the scope

  • Number of source systems and integrations: ERP, PIM, 3PL, subscriptions, reviews and loyalty
  • Catalog structure: variant counts, product options, bundles and specification data
  • How many legacy URLs carry search traffic or backlinks
  • Custom features that need an app, a Shopify Function or custom development
  • Shopify Plus requirements such as B2B, Markets or checkout extensibility
  • Data quality in the source platform, and how much cleanup happens before import

A strong fit when

  • Your current platform or headless architecture is expensive or difficult to maintain.
  • Organic search, legacy URLs and referral traffic have meaningful value to preserve.
  • The store depends on apps, ERP, fulfillment, subscriptions or other integrations that need a deliberate replacement plan.
  • You want one senior team responsible for storefront implementation, redirects, analytics validation and launch QA.

Probably not the right engagement when

  • You only need a product CSV imported into an otherwise finished Shopify store.
  • The project requires a guarantee that rankings or revenue cannot move after launch.
  • The source platform, data or integration access cannot be provided for discovery.
  • The launch date is fixed before scope, dependencies and data quality can be reviewed.

Questions before a migration

Shopify migration questions

A Shopify migration agency should plan the replatforming before moving data. Our scope can include catalog and customer data, theme implementation, apps and integrations, URL redirects, technical SEO, analytics, launch QA and post-launch monitoring. The exact scope is documented before implementation begins.

A focused migration can take several weeks. Larger Shopify or Shopify Plus migrations take longer when they include large catalogs, ERP or 3PL integrations, subscriptions, B2B requirements, international markets or custom functionality. Our published Custom Build or Replatform starting point is usually scoped across a 4–24 week delivery window, with the final timeline confirmed after discovery.

We reduce migration risk by inventorying valuable URLs, building a redirect map, preserving important metadata and structured data where appropriate, validating canonicals and sitemaps, and monitoring Google Search Console after launch. Rankings cannot be guaranteed because Google controls crawling and ranking, but SEO continuity can and should be engineered into the migration plan.

Yes. We scope Magento to Shopify, WooCommerce to Shopify, BigCommerce to Shopify, custom-platform migrations and headless-to-native Shopify replatforming. We map how products, customers, orders, content, integrations and business rules work on the current platform before deciding how they should work on Shopify.

Ask for a source-platform audit, a documented redirect and data mapping plan, clear ownership of ERP and app integrations, representative checkout and tracking tests, cutover criteria, and post-launch Search Console monitoring. A scoped migration proposal should state what will not be transferred as clearly as what will.

We estimate work from catalog and customer data complexity, design and theme requirements, app replacements, integrations, SEO redirect coverage, QA and launch support. A discovery assessment identifies dependencies before a fixed scope or phased estimate is proposed; a product count alone is not a reliable price estimate.

Yes. Customer passwords are stored as one-way hashes on the source platform, so they cannot be moved to Shopify. Customer records, addresses and order references can be imported; customers then activate their Shopify account from an invitation email. We plan the timing and wording of those invitations, and brief support, as part of the cutover.

Usually a recent window of orders is imported so customers can see their history and support can look up past purchases. Imported orders are reference records, not orders Shopify will refund or fulfill again through its normal flow, so older history can stay in the source export or a reporting tool. We agree the window with finance and support during discovery.

Yes. Shopify Plus migration projects can include B2B, international markets, checkout and customer-account requirements, enterprise integrations, app replacement, analytics and launch governance. We scope the work around the systems the business cannot afford to break.

A native Shopify theme can be the better operating model when the headless layer adds engineering cost without delivering a meaningful UX, content or channel advantage. We compare the current architecture, feature dependencies, performance, editorial workflow and maintenance burden before recommending a direction.
